Sexual relations between older men and younger boys happen the world over, going back centuries. They are not taboo for many. Because women are considered property and not people, they are not worthy of being loved. True love, then, can only exist between males. This is disturbing to most modern countries, and I definitely don’t condone it–but it is a very real part of many cultures, and neither the boys, their families, or the men who “love” them see this as wrong. The boys are not men. It is “normal” and expected and not at all about homosexuality or sexual preference. It just… IS. They grow up, marry, and conti ue the tradition. Grown men, however, DO see the taboo of anything remotely sexual with other grown men. There is a distinction in their minds, and grown men past a certain age do not participate in sex play with each other–That WOULD be considered homosexuality.

I did a huge research project on this subject a few years ago. It was very disturbing that it still goes on, because this practice predates even early Greek history and is still flourishing across the glibe even as we have (supposedly) advanced as a civilization.
